I've been using the cheapest oil I can find that meets the 'S' code OEM rating for my model year - IIRC, mine is an SH rating - generally not a problem since the ratings are up to SL(?) nowadays.

However, if I were to get a new or newer truck, I would strongly consider the use of synthetic or at least semi-synthetic.

I use motorcraft synthetic blend and motorcraft filter on my truck and van. I used some conventional oil but it seemed to sludge up my engine more. The 5.4L seems to have more condensation than any engine I know.

What problems are caused by condensation?

i tend to run the CHEAPEST oil i can find in my 4.9lt it seems to work good. For some reasons the 6cyl's dont tend to like to the more expensive stuff. had issues when i used the "nascar" brand stuff and the more $ oils.

but my buddy SWARES by "Royal purple" oil. thats all he will use in his 302ci. he swares it improves everything possible. I have no clue, but yea anyways.

Well I use Anchovie fish oil in my 302 the Omega 4, 6, 9, 43 oils help keep my oil passages clean.
Did I mention I use Avacado oil in the rear end of my truck?

Fish oil gives the truck gas, so I don't use it anymore.
