"Powertrain Malfunction Error" & Acceleration Problems...
Need help from everyone. This morning driving to work my information section in the electronic gauge cluster threw several errors including "Powertrain Malfunction", "Precollision Assist Not Available": and others I can't remember cause they flashed through and I was concentrating on the road. The truck then wouldn't accelerate and when I pushed the gas petal, the truck went into total herky-jerky mode. It was literally like it went into convulsions. I had to quickly pull off the road for safety. I turned the truck off and then turned it back on and no errors and it was fine but I didn't trust it for the hour drive to work so I turned around and parked it and took with wife's Audi. Thoughts on what it might be? Hopefully not the rear axle and differential again. See next paragraph.
History of Truck:
In Mid February 2023 the gauge cluster lit up with tons of errors. Pretty much every safety feature turned off from anti lock breaks to collision avoidance and everything else. Took it to the dealership and they said the axle sheered a bolt off or something like that and it ruined the axel and rear differential and they would have to replace sensors. Took the dealership 3 weeks to get parts and get it fixed,
Truck Specs:
2021 F150 Platinum Crew Cab, 4wd, Powerboost with pretty much ever option. 40,500 miles and when it was fixed 2 months ago it had 36,000 miles.
Let me know everyone's thoughts. I am VERY fearful the same thing has happened again as when I talked to the dealer after the last fix, I asked if this known problem was corrected with better or different parts and she told me no, they just put the same parts in there again as Ford has no long term fix for it at the moment. She said I'd get an additional warranty on the truck's powertrain to 60,000 miles though since it's a known problem.
Thanks everyone!

i have a 2021 powerboost with 70k miles. the transmission has crapped out already and i have had the truck at the dealership for a month waiting on parts. When you pay over 900 bucks a month for something that isn't working i am pretty pissed.
Yea they replaced mine at 36000 miles and I have a good feeling it just went out again cause the last time started exactly like this. Few codes and errors and I called the dealership and they said oh, it's just a software glitch, blah blah blah. Then one day they all went off at once and stayed on and they said yep you need a new rear axle and differential and modules. 3 weeks later I had my truck back. That was right at 2 months ago. Last time it took a month or two to fully fail.
Mine was $74K. Looked up the value to trade and it's about $58K-$60K trade in value so I think I'm going to need to go that route because it's starting to me too unreliable. If it's the same thing as before I'm for sure getting rid of it.

I am currently working directly with Ford on this issue. My concern is that this type of thing will continue to happen, Ford won't cover it, and I will be stuck with a great looking trucking that doesn't work. I long for the day when things were made to last and manufactures took great pride in producing a good product instead of looking at profits only. It amazes me that Ford grosses 10-13K per truck and annually makes over 8 billion just off the F150 line.....I have a 2010 F150 with over 300k on it, no problems. I really like the concept of a hybrid truck, I'm just not sure I made a wise purchase.
I have always lived by the rule that I never buy the first model year of a vehicle when they make major changes. I didn't follow my rule this time and it seems to have come back to bite me in the backside. My wife's new Audi was $85K and we bought it close to the same time and it hasn't seen the shop once except for oil changes and tire rotation.
There is some MAJOR defect with the rear ends in these trucks for some reason and according to several dealers' service departments. There is no fix that I'm aware of unless it came out in the last 2 months since the last time they replaced the whole rear end.

Yup. I learned my lesson when Toyota introduced the 3rd generation 4 Runner. I haven't owned a Toyota since (the tranny crapped out on that one as well). I had promised myself I wouldn't buy a first year production vehicle again but was in need of a new truck because of the high miles I had on the 2010. Which is kind of funny since the 2010 still works fine and is what I have been driving since the PB soured.
