Default Possible Clutch Issue

Good afternoon,

I have a 04 f150 heritage with a 4 speed Manual transmission. It has a 5th gear over drive. Whenever I drive in heavy rain, I've been having issues with the truck shaking and not accelerating properly at certain gear and RPM combinations. It always happens when I'm in 3rd gear or higher at a lower RPM or lay on the gas hard. Soon after the rain stops the issue goes away. This seems to indicate that somehow the clutch housing is getting flooded and causing the clutch to slip. No check engine lights are coming on which leads me to believe it's not an engine related problem. Furthermore, if the engine was miss firing it wouldn't be at certain gear and rpm ranges. The shaking did get bad enough one time that a check engine light came on for a few seconds but that was it. The shaking seems to come from the clutch region. Any other ideas? Anyone have any experience with a manual transmission f150?

Thanks

I know that you said that it is probably not engine related, but I had this happen on a truck (also standard trans) when the ignition control module went wonky. It was intermittent, and also the check engine light behaved just as you have described. 2 cents worth.

Hi,

So after a couple months of trying various trouble shooting solutions I'm finally determined that the misfiring is due to a short either in my coil pack mount or the plug that leads into it. I started spraying specific connections down one at a time with a garden hose and when I soaked the plug leading into the coil pack the engine started running rough when idling and would misfire when driving. I got a check engine light and the code reader said there was a misfire on coil three. Tried to greasing the plug to keep water out but that failed to work. The last time it rained when I was driving it did it again and I soaked the plug in WD 40. That seemed to eliminated the problem. Right now I'm just trying to figure out where specifically the short is because I don't know if it's the plug or the coil mount. I've taped the plug up very thoroughly with electrical tape so that no water can get in so if it does it again I'll know it's the mount.

Feedback welcome.

Thanks
