Everyone likes to rag on Exxon-Mobil because it's the most highly-valued American corporation (in market capitalization), but fact of the matter is that they perform an essential service for all of us: getting that black gold from some godforsaken place to your vehicle.
If you want to criticize an oil company for making BIG profits, why not take a look at Saudi Aramco (aka, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). They make ExxonMobil look like a mom-and-pop operation in terms of dollar value.
Exxon Mobil (market cap): ~$400 billion
Saudi Aramco (analyst estimates of total value): $2.5 - $7 trillion.

dude, i'm not giving them a hard time. Exxon is a great company who does employ a lot of employees and pays a lot of taxes, not to mention they make very high quality products which I use all the time..I'm not screaming "down with Exxon" I simply made a statement that I would love to have 1/16th of their profits..I agree sh*t is messed up right now but that's neither here nor there, and I'm not gonna sit here and talk politics over a F150Forum..
there is a simple rule of thumb a very wise, drunk man told me once.."never discuss religion or politics over a beer" ...only leads to arguments...
Same man told me, "If it has **** or tires it's gonna give you nothing but problems" also true

Don't forget that the oil company doesn't set market prices. They only produce the product and take it to market. As a company and are entitled to profits. If you'd rather have the government take over, be my guest.

Look Before You Gripe:
The major oil companies made gross profits of about 8%, much less than they paid in taxes to the various levels of government. In comparison appliance manufacturers' profits exceeded 17%....I don't hear anyone complaining that appliance manufacturing companies are immoral rip-off artists making obscene profits at the expense of the little guy and making millionaires richer.

opinions are like *****...
Most don't understand that there is a very small profit margin in refining. The majority of profits are from oil production from the ground. With the risk comes the reward, just look at how much one mistake cost BP last year.
