POLL: Oil Changes: DIY or Dealer?
#41
Do it myself everytime!
1) I know its done correctly
2) I have a easy disposal drop at our local power plant
3) I live 40 miles from the nearest shop I would trust so time is a big factor here
4) I have all the tools I need
5) I enjoy doing all my own maintenance
6) I know its done correctly.....that needed said twice.

In my former life I was an ASE master tech. Now, I an old man(58) and I will have the stealership do ALL the maintenance. When you do that way there will never be ANY debate over warranty claims. Lastly, Yes- it costs more to have them do the oil changes(about $10 to $15 more), but while they're doing it, I get a free latte and cookie and get to leer at the twenty year old receptionista.

Been doing my own since I started driving in the late 90's. Never trusted anyone else turning wrenches on my stuff.
If you do get someone else to do it.. always check the oil before starting the vehicle. I personally know of more then one person that has been well below reading or no oil at all when they picked their vehicle up. Can't imagine what damage was done by the 'tech' that drove it out of the bay...
Years ago I had the tires changed at a local Mom & Pop shop because I don't have the equipment to do that.. I made it about 2 miles from their shop before I had a bad vibration and heard something smack against the running board... they never tightened the damn lugs on my wheels! I bring my trq stick whenever I get it done now.

The dealer did the first one for free. After that I started doing them for a few reasons. It's cheaper, I know exactly what's going in, and I get oil samples for analysis. After doing the second one, I installed a Fumoto drain valve. Now I simply add section of hose and flip the valve open. I log the maintenance on the Ford owner site.
