Default PLEASE HELP! transmission issues...

I have a 1998 Ford f150 with the 4.6 liter engine . I got a check engine light and my transmission started shifting hard all of a sudden. Now it feels like it has no power at times, and it's jumpy. You put foot on throttle, and it's as if I was bouncing my foot on the gas, then all of a sudden, it will take off and accelerate normally, then it will shift and start again. I am getting the code for a short in the electronic pressure control software noid, so I dropped the pan and replaced that. It didn't change a thing. I am having trouble locating where the wires run from the transmission to the pcm. My truck has 176000 miles on it, and I know that transmission failure could be what's wrong, but I'm hoping it's not. Any suggestions? Is there a certain area on these trucks where the wires run near the exhaust or something else hot that could have melted them causing a short?
