Phone Suggestions Needed
Right now I have a basic cell phone. I have been wanting to get a smart phone for awhile and now that I have my new Ford, its time.
I'm sorry to say that I have AT&T for service. Are there any phones that work better than others with the Sync system? Which ones should I avoid?

I have an iPhone 4 with no compatability issues. There is only one quirky thing it does. If I last listened to music from my iPhone using Bluetooth, the next time I get in and start the truck, the iPod part of my phone will pickup where it left off. What's odd is that I maybe listening to the radio or cd when it does it. I don't here the iPhone but it's playin music. So what I have to do is select USB on my sync display (not bluetooth media) so that it wont auto start the music on my phone.
Hope this helps.

I've had my iPhone 4S for about 3 months now. It replaced my 3GS version. I too have AT&T. It syncs well with my vehicle (not SYNC) via BT. The 4S is definitely faster to load web pages but it is more or less the same phone. I don't find SIRI to be all that helpful and FaceTime has been useless for me.
Coverage is fine in my area and reception is good but this w/e coming back from Canada my phone wouldn't allow me to access some critical apps (Trapster/Facebook) until I had been back in the States for a few hours. It showed transition back to AT&T from Rogers network and I hard reset it 4 times but was denied access to any app requiring a sign in account. My wife's Samsung Windows Phone was operational on AT&T while we waited in line on the Canadian side of the border.
Don't know if that helps. I think I would explore the Droids a bit more if I were shopping again.

On my Droid there is an option to 'resume music on start-up'.
I turned that off.
Now it doesn't resume until I punch in the command and it still starts up where it left off.
OP: I've been having good luck with my HTC ThunderBolt. Everything works thru Sync, perfectly.
Chester was built in Sept of 2009, I'm running the original Sync software that came with.
Never have had to go to 'Sync my Ride' for uploads and have switched phones twice since owning Chester. Sync works really well for me.

If you want text options to work with Sync since the iphone does not use the feature as of yet I would get a blackberry...I think they are the only phones that allow this feature. I would say go droid but there battery life is really poor. I mean any droid will die out after 5 to 6 hours. I personally have an iPhone 4...would have gotten the 4S but saw it as pointless just bc of Siri. I will wait to get the iPhone 5 when it comes out.
I have a Droid X. Not sure if ATT has it, but doubt it. I will tell you this. I have had an upgrade due for about 6 months now, and have no interest in using it. I love this freaking phone.
Not sure what people are doing to this phone to only get 5-6 hours battery. I have stock battery, listen to Pandora at least 3 hours a night, youtube on breaks, surf this forum, make a few calls, and still have about 15% battery when I get home from 11 hour shift. It works great with Sync.
As this is the only smartphone I've owned other than a few crackberrys, I can't speak for the IPhone, but it is of course very popular. I will advise you to not get a Blackberry, RIM sucks.

Go with an android - samsung galaxy sII. I think the skyrocket is the best version of that phone that at&t offers. Samsungs have good screens, they are light and hold up well. Battery life will be good too. The new samsung galaxy nexus phone may be available on attention soon as well.
Now, the Samsung phones are pretty good with the stock rom (software). But I always mod my android phones with cyanogenmod, which removes all of the bloatware and offers additional functions, and really makes the phones shine. Performance and battery life are amazing with cyanogenmod. Visit cyanogenmod.com for supported devices. I never buy a phone without checking whether cyanogen supports it first.
