Unhappy Performance Issues (help)

I bought my Ford with a K&N 57 series intake & and duel exhaust already installed a month ago. I put a Edge Evolution Programmer (Evo) on it, right away, to help control the fuel/air quantities. I heard 57 really like to run the engine lean.

With this said... recently (last night) it has been running really sluggish. And when I say sluggish I mean awful - im worried someone is going to rear end me when I pull out in traffic. I normally use 89 fuel and run on Level 2.

The first few weeks it worked awesome. no problems, no hiccups, no issues.

The problems started early last week. I was in Level 2 with 87 fuel. (i know ~ possible rookie mistake, but the manual said i possibly could). A check engine light came on (8/24) and the Evo Diagnostics said I was running too lean - duh!!!. I switched to L1, and ran the rest of the 87 tank out on L1. Everything seemed fine.

On Thurs (8/27), I filled up again with 89 and put the Evo back on L2. (! was out of town all weekend so I didnt drive it till Mon (8/31)) Last night (9/1) on the way home from work (20 min hwy) I could here it humming at (what I thought - hopefully not just mental) a higher tone. An odd tone. (with the KN & Pipes - you can tell when its different) I parked my truck at my place for 30 minutes and went inside. When I came back out and turned it on, it did not want to pull out of the parking spot. The engine didnt rev high (like I missed the gear) it was just Sloth like. It really took me about 30 seconds of idle roll for the engine to take grab. It ran fine for a few dozen blocks and then after sitting at a stop sign for a few minutes, the exact same thing happened trying to pull out across traffic.

During these times it seems like it cant get from 0-30 mph, but it can get from 30-60 just fine.

I would like to know what the issue is. but mostly HOW TO FIX IT.

Since last night, I took the Evo off, returned it to stock performance, and dropped it off at the Carmax where I purchased it at, to get a window switch fixed. I told them about the performance issues, but omitted all the information about the Evo.

Please Help... Solutions are my Goals

Sorry... I assumed it was in my signature. i need to work on that.

2006 F-150 FX4 SuperCrew 5.4L V8 57K miles.

A buddy of mine just thinks the K&N57 and Evo L2 dont mix well. I suggested getting the lower K&N 77 series intake, but I think the comparison is

[K&N57 L1] vs [K&N77 L2]

I think I'll get more HP with the 57 L1. And it will give my better fuel economy. I just want to verify if I need to be tucking my tail between my legs or not.

Any type of CAI will lean out the 5.4 3valve. The fact that you ran low octane with the Level 2 program just compounded the problem. I don't think the dealer will be of any big help. At best they will say that they could not duplicate the problem and for you to bring it back when it happens again. So when you get the truck back remove the negative battery post for a minute to reset the PCM and start over. You really need to contact the edge dealer to discuss the problem.
