I have a 1999 F150 XLT with a 5.4L V8 engine and I love working on it but I dont know too much about working on engines other then oil, engine coils, and injection cleaning, would anyone know a cheap, easy way of improving performance?

Unfortunately performance can mean spending a lot of cash. You'll get the best bang for your buck by doing scheduled maintenance (tune up filters etc.) not bolt on items. Example is cold air intakes. They will make the motor noisier so you think you're getting more power but it gives you little or no improvement. What they will do is rob you of gas mileage. Stay with the basics unless $$$$$ and gas don't matter. Just my opinion.

Cheap and performance usually dont go in the same sentence although I dearly wish it would!

Make sure the truck is running properly first, and basic boltons are intake, exhaust ( catback, midpipe or headers ), steeper gears, and a tune typically.

Like a SCT tune for the 99 5.4 would be 22-25 horses to the wheels and 20-24 torque on a 91/93 octane tune for example.

Cold air intakes DO improve gas mileage and performance. Colder your engine runs, the better gas mileage and HP you get out of it. I've done quite a few bolt ons and really notice a difference
