Default PATS problem?

I have a 2001 F-150 Lariat Crew Cab. Today, I ran an errand and when I came out of the store, the truck would not start. The key turned and the starter engaged in a normal manner, but the engine did not start.

When I turn the key to the on position, the "theft" light times out and goes off like normal after 3 sec. However when I turn the key to start it, the theft light comes back solid while the starter is engaged. Is this a PATS issue or is there something else going on?
