Pull out on parking brake release and lift parking brake pedal with your foot. Sometimes the spring gets weak and doesn't put enough pressure on the switch.

I don't know if our Fords work the same way...but the parking brake light in the Toyota Tacoma I had previously started staying on. Turned out to be the master cylinder was a tad low on brake fluid. I put about a tablespoon of brake fluid in it and the light went off. That truck was 11 years old (75K miles)....so the brakes were starting to wear.

This but you might also have a brake problem if this or checking the fluid doesn't help.
