Default Oxidized Plastic Trim

Has anyone discovered a vinyl/plastic restorer that actuallly works for exterior trim??? I've tried several that make all the plastic trim (especially bed rail covers) on my '05 look nice ....until it rains. Then I start all over. I'd sure like to find something that brings it back to like-new condition that I don't have to reapply every week.

Go buy you a heat gun from Wally world...the heat gun will bring your plastics back to brand new condition. The heat from the gun pulls the oils from the plastic back to the top surface. Look up the how to video on YouTube about it. Search "heat gun plastic restore" or something like that and you will see it.

Go get a few cans of Fusion Krylon Paint. This stuff is made for plastics. I re-did my windshield wiper cowl, the plastic on my steps, plastic step pad on bumper, and my bed rails. People asked if I had bought a new bumper the plastic trim looked so good. I have had this on the truck for 15k miles so far and no fading, chipping, peeling of any kind. I do live in Tx by the way, and its held up to this summers heat/sun so far. Still shines. Just my opinion though...

I've considered the painting option. Never heard of the heat gun approach. I'm still hoping to find some easily applied wipe on product that actually works.

You won't have to have any wipe products if you use the heat gun.

great thread. I remember back in the day I used some type of wax. just last night I happened to use some black magic spray that I had only been using on the interior for plastic, rubber, and leather. it is also for the exterior though, so I gave it a shot. it rained today and it still looks good. i'm sure a wax would hold you much longer though

Ive heard about using shoe polish but Ive never tried it.

If the heat gun actually works why doesnt it get blacker when in direct sunlight in the summer?

Get some Krylon Fusion Paint for Plastics. This will not wear in color, at all. Rocks gettin flung from my tires havent even chipped the coloring.
