Looks like a "throwback" to 50's & early 60's, guys did that to their hot rods. They called it "raked" back then.

Only thing the trucks in the pics are lacking is dumps, if yer old enough to remember them.

Yep. That is the thread. In in nc too and it tends to be 16 year old rednecks who don't know any better.

Not trying to offend but it seems to be a "redneck" thing. I have lived in NC for 20+ years and proud of the South but don't quite get this trend? Is this a Southern thing or is it more spread out than I know? Sorry I don't have any pictures of truck like this but I will snap a few when I see one (shouldn't take long, see the everyday).
Nope, not us rednecks...hell no!!! We discussed this at work awhile back,I'm talking around 4yrs ago and it seems to have originated in Lumberton.Hope not to offend and yea,I have family there.Kids with some $$$ that actually had 4" & 6" lifts were pulling out the rear blocks or springs. And when it got to Whiteville ( and if you've been to Whiteville you know you can see anything there as far as vehicles go), it just went bat **** crazy from there.Which would explain why you may have seen this phenomenon in Wilmington.I go to Carolina Beach quite often and have only seen a few and none actually on the North end...it may fade away....eventually.

It is fairly common from Johnston, harnett, and bladen county. I think it originated in California though. Years ago.

I know in the desert/sw (more so in california) it's a prerunner style but usually with flared front fenders and long travel shocks to allow for major suspension travel.... i grew up in NC but don't recall seeing this particular 'style' - it's far more useless than the desert trucks as there is absolutely no advantage I can see except....

.... people trend to desperately stand out from the crowd. no different than fashion trends, once something new becomes normal then it's out for xx number of years until the other ways of standing out have all cycled through then it'll come back again / ---> repeat cycle ad infinitum
