Default One reason I recommend chaining things down...

Recently, I was coming back from an outdoor trip, and due to lack of proper garbage bags, I ended up using leaf bags that sort of looked like they were gift wrapped for the campsite garbage (bottles, beer cans, etc.)

I stopped by a gas station on the way to grab a drink after filling up. While waiting in line at the checkout, another pickup truck pulled alongside my vehicle, two guys got out and grabbed all the bags of garbage from my truck, chucked them in theirs, and they sped off, going the wrong way on a highway to get away.

The clerk was ready to dial 911, but I told him to not bother, because of the contents in the bags, and that doing a police report for stuff worth $0 is not worth the peace officer's time.

Two morals here: First, maybe I mention security quite a bit, but it does show that people will rip things off in a flash. Second, it can't hurt to use nonstandard garbage bags. The guys saved me from having to lug that stuff to the dumpster.

Seems like it worked out for you. Might have to try that sometime to see how it works.

Those guys were probably from the EPA -- ensuring that the environment is protected and that all trash is properly disposed.

Pretty amazing story...

wow. i would think if your going to take something from a truck at least be able to see what it is to decide if it was worth it. would be funny to see their face when they go into the pawn shop to sell the trash. or what if you had cinder blocks or something heavy in the bags and they couldnt lift them
