Default Old F150s...

Hey all...I'm new to the forum and was wandering about older F150s. I'm 15 (young, right?) and want to get a Ford F150 as a first truck. They look pretty bombproof. I like the older models. Is this a rock-solid, no-frills kind of truck or what?

Indeed it is my 85 has gone over 320k miles and the engine still hasn't need to be rebuilt. You replace pumps every once in awhile and your belts and the usual maintenance. Besides that if you treat it right it should last for ages.

Also if you plan on buying an old one make sure to take it to a mechanic first to get it looked over. The previous owner may have not been so caring.

If you want bulletproof look for a 4.9 Inline Six. Good luck with your search!

Same here!, my 85 has 210k on the 351 windzor and is still putting power to the ground! There awsome trucks, I too am a youngster (16 years young!) and this is my 1st car, I couldn't be happier with it!!

yeah i have a 78 with over 400k miles on it, it had 2 motor in it thou, but the first 351m had almost 350k on it so it really depends if you keep the maintence up on it and just take care of it really. it is when you abuse it and not take care of it is when it starts taking a dump lol

I second the 4.9 motion. I have an 85 with the 4.9 auto (would prefer a 5 speed, but that's another story) and it has been the bomb. You can't hardly beat that engine to death. It's not a race car, but VERY reliable.

by a 4.9 Ill vouch as well. Best motor for longevity. I have a 95 F150 with 264k on the original 351w still spins the tires hard. I replaced the pump at 250k. Thats been about it.
