Default Oil type...(sorry)

I know there are a thousand posts on here about what kind of oil to use and intervals. I know it really doesn't matter what oil to use so long as you change the oil in proper intervals. However, I was wondering about using certain oils in Ford's. Obviously the book says to use Motorcraft, but where I live it is next to impossible to get it without spending big $$. I was looking into Mobile 1 full syn or Extended Perf. or Pennzoil Platinum. I was wondering if anyone uses either of these (if not, what do you use) and what your experiences are with them. Since I can go up to Wal-Mart and buy the name brands whenever I want. My truck only has 8600 miles on it and should have the oil changed here soon (2nd change). I would like to keep using MC but the unavailability of it hinders things. So any other advice would help. Thanks.

Your best option since you are unable to get Motorcraft would be Mobil 1.... (In My Opinion).... I switched to Royal purple. Less oil changes and it runs about the same price as motorcraft synthetic blend and Mobil 1. To stick with MC you would have to let ford change your oil and pay that hefty price....

I have used mobile one full synthetic since new with motorcraft filters. My truck has 60,000 miles and for the price am considering using motorcraft synthetic blend. The price difference on 5 quarts is 10.00. Anybody have any info? I currently get about 16 mpg and don't want to drop any lower.

Wal-Mart should have the MC oil in stock. If they don't it really comes down to what interval you plan on running. If you are not going extended drain and want to use a syn or syn blend, I would get any name brand on sale. MC, GT-1, M1, PP, PU, QS are all good.
If you want to keep the oil as close to MC as possible the GT-1 is made by the same company and is similar, but not the same, as MC. If you want the full syn version of GT-1 you can get it here for a good price http://www.petroleumservicecompany.c...gine-oils.html (no affiliation just a customer) FWIW I use PU and Full Syn GT-1 in my EB and 5.4

Use MC syn blend with confidence. It is a great oil for the price.

I was told by the ford dealer what ever oil you decide on you have to use a ford oil filter they told me all the other filters brake down and and if your engine blows up and there is not a ford filter they won't warranty your engine don't no if that's true but just what I was told. I just tack my truck into ford dealer to change my oil i can't be bothered to do it and it only casts me 45$
