FWIW, "my understanding" from the techs I work around, the black "gasketing material" that is used, has a short time, for them to get installed on the pan, and to get the pan installed back in place. I'm NOT making any excuses for the tech involved, just sayin'............ Sometimes when one hurries, mistakes happen.

I didn't suggest there should be no consequences, or that OffAir had no reason to be upset - I was only talking about the posts that seem to go for his throat.

Yes, when I made mistakes as a tech, I rectified them without being paid extra. But AFAIK, I always fixed it myself - I don't think anyone had to clean up after me.

They are also going to work out an extended warranty for my engine so I can have some kind of assurance that I’m covered for an extended period of time in the future.
This sounds like they're handling it exactly the way you'd want them to handle a mistake.

I do almost all of the light repair work on my cars/trucks. But on almost all recalls there is a problem. Hoses left off. Truck seat dropped on door threshold denting it. CVC shaft not snapped in all the way. Afraid to go to dealer. Always nice and friendly but no one takes time to check their work.

Update:

I just got my truck back today. Oil pan work has been redone, with no visible signs of a leak. The RTV should have had plenty of time to cure since it sat on a lift for three days before being run after the work was done since there were backordered one-time use bolts for the sway bar and differential mount that didn’t come in until today.

They cleaned the oil off, detailed and waxed my truck, and gave me a warranty on the engine for the next 25,000miles/year so if I have any issues, I get it fixed free of charge. They are also covering the tow bill and rental bill.

As big of a pain in the rear this whole thing was, I’m happy they did everything they could to make it right.

I can’t thank you all enough for your help and advice. Happy driving!
