Question Oil Change Interval

The stealer says that in colder climates (Canada) the oil change interval is different than what Ford recommends in the service manual. Anyone care to comment on that or is it ok to follow the intervals set by Ford.

Cold weather is not a Special operating condition which would change the interval from 5k to 3k miles.

SPECIAL OPERATING CONDITIONS
If you operate your vehicle primarily in one or more demanding "Special Conditions" listed below, you will need to have some items maintained more frequently. If you only occasionally operate your vehicle under these conditions, it is not necessary to perform the additional maintenance.

Towing A Trailer or Using A Camper or Car-Top Carrier , refer to Special Operating Condition "T".

Extensive Idling, Low-Speed, Commercial Use-Taxi, Police, Delivery , refer to Special Operating Condition "I".

Operating In Dusty Conditions , refer to Special Operating Condition "D".

Off-Road Operation , refer to Special Operating Condition "O".

Man, they must be really needing the buisness cause that is a lame excuse to get more oil changes. The mechanic at the ford dealer i bought my truck from said that the 3k oil change schedule was an oil company scam. He told me every 5k was Ford recommended.

It's true that cold weather itself doesn't take any extra toll on your oil, but people in colder climates do tend to let their vehicles idle much more than warmer climates. I agree though that it wouldn't cut your oil change interval nearly in half. Do it every 4000 niles if your worried.

Is that for the newer trucks only? Mine is 2006 model 4.6L and he told me 5,000 miles, im pretty sure my manual says that also.

7500 is for the newer models. IIRC, the 2011 Mustangs are supposed to be 10,000

you guys are nuts, if you wait 7500 for a change you sure as hell better be running full synthetic. regular oil you will want to change every 3k, possibly 4k if its all highway miles. I never push mine that far, i change every 2500-3000 depending on how it was drove. Oil is much cheaper than repairs down the road.
