Default Oil Change

I have 2, 2016 F-150s. One XL company truck and my personal XLT. Yesterday my personal truck with 4K miles it's at 5% life, asked me already for oil change. My work truck asks me at around 8k-9k miles for oil change.

Is that normal!? Is it because I barely use it!? Need some thoughts, thanks gents!!!!

I know the XLT is equipped with intelligent oil-life monitor, but not sure for the XL... Logically, your work truck would require more oil changes so that's a little odd, but it all depends on what you do with each of em.

Wouldn't worry at all...

How long has your XLT been in service? It also tracks time between changes.

I think there's a setting in there somewhere that you can change the "recommend oil change mileage" from 5k to 7.5k to 10k. I can't remember for sure, it may be something you have to ask the dealer to set.

Perhaps the % oil life monitor was not reset to 100% at last oil change.needs to be reset at each service to be of any use.

No okay, let me try to explain again. My personal truck XLT only has 4K miles on it since I bought it October last year, I barely use it since I drive an XL company truck, which has 20k miles on it. The first time the work truck asked me for oil change was at close to 9k miles, on the work truck I've only done 2 oil changes. My personal truck XLT with 4K miles already asking me for oil change.

Both XL and XLT have oil life, time of engine etc etc, pretty much the same except extras.

I am assuming that it has to do with the truck not being moved except weekends and perhaps the oil change needs to be more often then a truck being used everyday.

Do most of you go somewhere for the oil changes or do them yourselves!? I'm leaning more towards me doing it that way I can buy quality but not sure.

You bought the truck almost 1 year a go. If the dealer did not reset the OLM when the truck was delivered then at the end of 1 year, regardless of mileage the truck will tell you to change the oil. Assuming the truck was built in July-August it has been a year. Technically, with your mileage you would change it at 1 year from the purchase date.

Salesman included a few oil changes when I bought my F150 so I will bring it there until I have to pay. When that time will come, I will do them by myself. We are our own best advocates Just keep your oil & filter purchase receipt with the mileage and you shouldn't have any warranty issues. Save on labor $ and put the money in better quality oil instead.

idrive got it right. That is why I asked how long it had been in service.

Up to 10,000 depending on use or 12 months.

It does explain all of this, and more in the owners manual.

Honestly I don't think I've ever read a manual in my life until I get stuck and have to go back, kind of like now after you told me lol. Since I never read the manual I didn't know but I appreciate everyone's input and guidance.
