Default Oil Change

I recently purchased a 2006 F150 with a 5.4L Triton V8. The local mechanic who did my first oil change charged me extra b/c he said these engines require 8 quarts of oil instead of 6. I just changed the oil myself for and the amount I drained out was no where near 8 quarts. Does anyone know how much oil is required to fill it up properly when doing an oil change?

Default Simple Enough:

Next oil change refill with five quarts and check the dipstick; add oil to the mark......

My 2008's owners manual says 7 quarts, I think. That's the 5.4. The 4.6 I think is 5 plus the filter.
