Default oil brands

I'm thinking of switching to full synthetic (not in my truck... in my civic) so can anyone recommend me a good oil brand for that? I may be switching to full synthetic in the truck once I get the oil leaks fixed, so I'll be filing this info away for that time as well I will also take recommendations on oil weight (2000 civic 1.6L and 94 5.0L F150)

how much you wanting to spend....my old 02 f150 gets full synthetic scheaffers oil... (my dad drives it now) and a K&N oil filter... its prolly the best oil ive ever used... its quite exspensive also.. and hard to find...

in my 08 i have always ran royal purple full synthetic.. and K&N oil filter...

best thing about a K&N oil filter is that it has a nut on the bottom you dont need a filter wrench... just put a socket on it and comes right off \

its also pricey....73 bucks for 6 qaurts of oil and a K&N..

as long as you keep up the maintence any name brand oil is fine these days...

ps..... i hate fram oil filters

I buy the cheapest synthetic oil that meets Ford specs. I use 0W40 or 5W40. For the Civic run the viscosity that Honda recommends.

IMO Wix filters are about the best out there. We've run them for years in every vehicle and semi on the farm and never had a problem. +1 about the Fram filters, I wouldn't put one on my lawnmower.
I really don't buy into the hype about synthetics like Royal Purple and the such being as expensive as they are. I think it's mostly marketing raising the price and that most of the synthetic oils are 99% the same.

I haven't had any trouble with filters getting stuck, I've just been barehanding them with no problems. I'll keep an eye out for the wix filter next time around. JMC what year/engine is your truck that you're running 0w40 in it?

90% of Hondas use 5W20. I would not change from that. I like Valvoline, I guess everyone would have something different to say. Filters are the hard choice. I would use anything but Fram. Even Wal-Mart's Super Tech has been proven to have a higher filtration rate. When it really comes down to it, Wix makes the best, and the Car Quest Blue Line Filters are made by Wix.

Mine is a 2000. 0W40 0 for the cold and 40 for the heat.

I've been running Mobil 1 for the last 40k miles in my truck along with a Wix or Mobil 1 filter with good result's. Go about 7-8k miles between changes. Don't know what would work the best in a Civic.

Pretty much any oil but PENNZOIL works just fine. Knowledgeable mechanics have eschewed Pennzhit for years...it just isn't a good oil.
Valvoline and Castrol rock, as does Mobil.

Filters....a lot of hate for Fram but the secret there is...they are fine if you change every 3000 miles or so. After that they (as well as a LOT of other filters) can cause oil to start bypassing the filter.
Purolator filters have consistently ranked best for many years....though they can be hard to find. Wix are almost as good, same for Mobil 1 filters.

In my opinion (as well as industry experts) you are wasting your money on K&N. You can pick up a Purolator filter for $5 or so and be confident in your choice.
I use factory filters in my Mazdas and Volvo, for the record. I'd use a Honda filter in the Honda, if I were you.
