If you drain the torque convertor 12 quarts.

I believe the 302 takes 5 quarts.

For those with older trucks, Walmart sells a 5 quart bottle of high mileage 10w -30 or 5w-30 for under $12. With a filter your oil change would come in around $16.

I am thinking of changing out my transmission fluid this next summer. Castrol has a high mileage ATF fluid that sounds like just the ticket for my E40D.

I think the engine is 5 qts.. I checked Alldata and they say 4.2 without filter.

I don't know where you are but I can do better than this....O'reillys has an oil change special. 5 quarts of oil and a filter for $9.99. This is our brand of oil and a microguard (purolator) filter. The only problem is that is doesn't include any high mileage oil. If I can help ya out , let me know.

The Chilton's book shows 6.0 quarts including filter for all 87-91 gas engines. The diesels take 10.0. My 5.0L does take 6 quarts.

For the tranny, shows several capacities, depending on engine, tranny, and 2WD/4WD combinations - 12 quarts ought to get you close enough, unless it has the E4OD (was that tranny offered then, or is this another Chilton's typo?) - takes 15.5 (2WD) or 16.0 (4WD) quarts. For my AOD, if just the pan is dropped to change the filter, takes about 3 quarts, however, as I recently found out - good to make it a point to change the fluid in the torque converter too.

You can tell if its the E4OD if there is like an extra sump in the bottom of the pan and if the pan is rectangular instead of square with 2 corners cut off.

Now that you mention it I do remember putting 6 qts in the trucks. I was thinking of the cars... Weird that Alldata would say 4.2 plus filter..
Put in 5 start it and then check it..
