Default Octane

Last night I went to the local WalMArt for a gift card so I could save some $ on gas. Then I went to the gas station there and they no longer have 87 octane fuel. They refused to give me my $ back, said I could still use the card on other stuff. It doesn't matter that the only reason I set foot in that place is to get gas.

Anyway I ended up putting 89 octane with 10% ethanol in my truck. I know, it's crap, but everyhting they have now has 10% ethanol. Is there any kind of additive that I can use that will help increase the milage and maybe stop some of the harmful effects of the ethanol?

Ethanol is only harmful if your truck is one that was made before Moonshine fuel was marketed. You have a 2004 so you have nothing to worry about. What is really bad is the stench this blended fuel has. Put some in my truck this last week end, something I have not done in a long time, I had to drive around for awhile with the windows rolled down to get the smell out of the cab.

the statement of 10% Ethanol is NOW reqiured by law. The oil companies have been using some amounts of ethanol for many year to boost the octane rating of crappy fuel in order to get more gasoline on the market, it helps reduce the strain on the demand side so that they can overcome the lack of refining capability.
