Default NP 208 Problem

I have a 1985 f150 with 5.8L on 36" swampers, just finished taking old motor out and had a comp 4x4 cam installed and bored pistons .40 over before istalling flat tops, hooker headers ect. I have the old truck running better than ever before, and now for the problem... I have been taking it easy on the truck since just installing new motor but took out to the lease yestarday and needed to have 4-wheeldrive, after locking milemaker hubs I placed shifter in 4lo and took off. But to my surprise the truck was not turning the front tires but the rear axle was producing the normal low range tourqe. The part that I realy dont understand is a month ago when I started the rebuild prossess to the motor the np 208 case was working fine, and with no grinding or odd noisies coming from the case then or now I am left scratching my head. If anyone has idea or suggestions please responed.

Thanks,
CC
