Default Noisy ABS pump??

I've got a 2010 F150 XLT that when turning into a driveway with some speed, like when coming off a roadway into a business, so the one front wheel is basically compressing the suspension, the truck makes this growling grunting noise. The dealer says it does not do it with traction control off. they are suspecting it is just a noisy ABS pump. They are waiting to get another 2010 in to try to duplicate it. It actually made the noise when I hit a curb yesterday, yes I hit a curb, no rim damage thankfully.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, the noise not the the curb thing.

Hi jester38.

I'd like to look into this for you. Could you please PM me your name, phone number, VIN, mileage, and dealer info?

It's normal for the ABS HCU to make noise, you should also feel some pedal pulsation when it activates. As for it activating just by hitting a curb or when turning like that could indicate it needing a new calibration (reprogramming) another thing it could be is tires that are not the same diameter, one new versus one half worn out or different size all together.

Other than that I would have to connect a scan tool and see if everything is operating within specified parameters.

Those are just a couple examples of things I ran across while working at a dealer.

The tires are all still the factory tires which seem to be wearing evenly. I do feel some feedback in the brake pedal, the noise just seems excessive. I've never had another vehicle make as much noise. The dealer had disconnected the pump and turned off traction control and it was silent, tells me it's definitely the pump, just very noisy. I haven't heard anyone else mention this before so.....

I would have to listen to it but, one pump can make more or less noise than another vehicle of the same build, remember it's all man made. I've heard some that were exceptionally loud but were still doing the job as designed, in such cases it's an annoyance that should be remedied under warranty but should still OAD. You will still have normal brakes with it disabled, but if you slam the brake pedal down your wheels will lock up.

Mud flap rubbing on the tire when turned? How fast are you going in to a driveway that activates your ABS?

No mudflats, speed is fairly normal, just a bit quicker than usual, will happen while depressing brake pedal or not.
