No fuel pump when hot
HI ALL,nice site. have a 01 f150 since new 130,miles. most trips are short under 20 min.wife took trip, stop for a drink (water),then would not start, called for tow, while waiting for tow about 20 min,it started and ran.she took it to a shop. woman, out of town, truck loaded, and about 200 miles from home. shop said 1100.00 for new fuel pump, said pump had no pressure.i told her go unload the truck, and drive home non stop.she made it no problems.now 3000 miles later,i drove truck around to get it hot and bought a fuel pump tester, when i got home it would not start.so i hooked up the new tester and no pressure.about 15 min later it started and had pressure about 32 lbs ,took vacuum line off regalater and pressure went up.then pinch the return line and pressure went up also.i changed the fuel relay. anybody have a problem like this? most like a power/ground issue.any help would be a big help. thanks alot
I have a 96 150 4.9L and the same problem as you. I'm not absolutely sure what the pressure should read but I know it's somewhere around 90 psi. Bought a new fuel pump (90 bucks at autozone) replaced it and the problem went away. You may also check the fuel pressure regulator but know that it's not a sensor problem. Test your gas cap also since this is a closed system.
