Default New Speakers

SO I bought 2 pair of MTX X-Thunder 6x8s (labeled 5x7 on the box) to replace the stock ones. They are 3 way coaxials, XT573 series or whatever. They say they are 260 watts, I don't know if that means each, or for the pair, RMS power 65 watts, sensitivity 92,5db/2,83v/1m, Impedance 4 ohms, Response 49Hz-22000Hz.

So this is to all you modern day stereo gurus. I haven't *****-nilly put aftermarket speakers in nothing since 1994. So I'm way behind the curve. Will the stock stereo (it's a single cd am/fm) push all four of these? Or will I need an amp? If so can I get away with pushing the amp and all four new speakers? I also want to install a 6 disc cd changer I bought like 3 yrs ago that has been sitting in the basement.

When I go to put these in 3 weeks from now, I'll take and post pics for you all, especially so others can see it go down who may want to see it in the future. So does anyone have any help?

Stock will push. Sounds much better with a AMP.

Amp, huh? i don't mean to sound totaly retarded, my Kansas friend, but can you hook it all up, amp and speakers with the stock? Like I said, 94...

Next time I'm in KS workin on turbines, I'll have to hit you up and buy you a beer. I worked corrections for 11 years, left as a Captain. I can tell you some stories, man...

It's not worth hooking a amp up to a factory head unit. You can buy some really nice head units for nothing at like Best Buy.

Default New Speakers

Just replaced my factory speakers in my 04 F-150 with Polk Audio 6 X 8. They are much clearer but the bass is terrible...definetly doesn't have enough power to them.

I would also like some guidance on this subject as well. I want my door speakers to have good bass.

Stock deck will run them but bass isn't all that good., they don't need much just look for a small amp I.E.500watt will be more then enough, or change to an amplified head unit and you should be fine!

I installed a set of polk audio 6x8's hooked up to a 900w amp (extra amp power to be used w/a small sub for base) my only grip with these door speakers is under my current set up i need a sub to have base but with factory installed headunit and just these speakers in place of factory door speakers they sounded really great - even did a test - hooked up drivers side w/polk audio and passenger side as factory to really see the difference - sounds good over factory - polk is a decent brand for the cash -

Good: The stock headunit will push the speakers and you will notice better sound

Better: Upgrade to a new headunit as well as speakers and it will sound even better

Best: If you want the best then you'd better pony up for an amplifier. Even the worst speakers will sound 100% better when they're amped.
