Default New member here! Say hello!

Hey fellas,

Fellow Canadian here, I come in peace!

Well I guess I'll start here. I'm in the market for a 02-03 F150 Supercrew (either with the 4.6 or 5.4). Don't need anything thing flashy as I'm a pretty basic guy, new trucks now-a-days are so much more technical.. I wouldn't even be able to keep up, plus.. I hate the idea of having a huge truck payment for the next 5-8 years!

So here are some questions I have..

-With the likelyhood of the truck having higher KMs/Miles on it, what would the reliability be like on it? Is their a certain mileage range to stay away from?

-How are the 4.6 and 5.4 engine to work on for a novice at mechanical repair? Relatively easy or moderate-hard? I'm a car painter by trade so I have basic knowledge with engines.

-What is the gas mileage like on these trucks? I do about 420 kms (260 miles) about 50/50 of hwy and city driving a week for work and driving my two kids around for school, would the gas kill me?

Big thanks for all the insight guys! Anything else I should know feel free to mention it!

maintenance is key. ive seen these trucks run 300k+ miles. if you take care of it, it will take care of you.

not bad. the biggest annoyance is it can be difficult to reach certain things. [/QUOTE

they like the gas. i had a '99 f150 supercab 4wd with the 5.4 and the best i ever got was probably 19, if that. the 4.6 doesn't get much better, and has less power

"Fellow Canadian here"... hello to you - I hope that if you are a bodyman/car painter (as opposed to being an artist who paints pictures of cars) that you are careful about checking for rusty frames, suspension and steering components. Here on northern Vancouver Island, most 15 year-old trucks (of any make) are pretty well done and rusted.

Hello. Another BC Canuck here.
had a 03 reg cab 4x4 5.4 auto long box with 7700pkg. It used 20ltr per 100km on average. Replaced with a 09 5.4 gas went to 16/100km
Good luck.

Welcome to the site! I have the 5.4 in our 2007 Expedition and get about 15mpg, had a 4.6 in a 2008 F150 and did a little better but both were 2wd. The biggest thing I've done is oil changes, fuel filters, air filters & coil packs and none of that was really difficult. Best of luck!
