New guy here need some help
I want to start off by saying thx. I've used your tips for a while now and have found this to be the best site for answering my questions.
My Problem: I have a 2000 F-150 4.6 4x4 auto. Starts fine, idle seems fine. When diving down the road it started to go into a false neutral around 40 mph. Now it is doing the same thing but usually shutting off like I turned the key back. I can just start it back up and drive on. This also seems to take a few miles to start, maybe after warming up.
Could anyone help me out here.
Thx for your time

A false neutral while driving would sound like a transmission problem but if the motor dies while this is happening and then is hard to start sounds more like either a fueling problem or maybe something with your ECM. Try having the truck scanned for codes at a ford dealer or even autozone.

I used my sons code reader and am getting no codes. Its not hard to start back up at all. I just put it in neutral, cost along and start it back up.
I will try a new fuel filter though and see if that gets me anywhere. Thx
It could be your injector too, it injects more fuel at higher speeds(I think, I'm just 17) and the injector may not be able to pump that much fuel into your motor
Try disconnecting the positive terminal from the battery for about 15 minutes... I had a wierdness occur once where the tranny kept dropping out of gear and it was running like it had water in the gas... tried everything... was throwing no codes and CEL is verified working.
So, I figured try resetting the computer... (knocking on wood) it corrected the problem, and that's been about a year and a half ago now...
