New F-150, new to forum, question on rust
Hi all,
I am new to this forum, having just taken delivery of a new 2012 F-150 XLT-XTR. This is also my first truck, having only owned cars and SUV's before. Everything topside is in perfect condition, as you would expect from a new truck, but I was surprised when looking underneath to see both fore and aft gearbox/transmission casings covered completely in a fine coating of rust, along with one or two other bits of the chassis. The dealership sprayed the rest of the underside with black underseal, so the rusty bits stand out.
My question: is it normal for zero-kilometer trucks to have rust underneath?
Thanks,
PLCA

Very normal. There are a few threads on this topic.

Five-0 Ret.
Probably surface rust. Happens because of the moisture in the air, and the truck setting without being driven. If you look closely at your brake rotors after the truck sets a few days, you will see the same thing. I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Okay thanks for the replies guys. As long as my new truck is behaving itself and hasn't missed out on some vital manufacturing process concerning rust prevention then I am happy.
