Default Neeedd Help

I know there are alot of threads out there about what I am going ask. So here goes, I have read alot posts about adding fog lights to a 1997-2002 F150 that did not have from Ford. I have installed OEM fog lights and also notice that the wiring and the fuses and relays are in place in the engine power under the hood, I have also got the OEM headlight switch in the dash. Here is were the problem starts, Is there a way to easily wire this switch to what I have to make the system to work or will need to rewire the whole system? I just really wanted to make clean, stock or OEM which ever you would to say it. I understand the rewire the early switch but I am using the switch after that, which has the spring clips to hold the headlight switch in, not the one that you turn the **** on then pull it off etc...... IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE THAT HAS DONE THIS OR KNOWS HOW would be a great help!!!!!! :help: Thank!

alright im a little confused lol maybe im not understanding it. do yo have the switch in your truck that can control the fog lights? the one that your turn all the way to the right and then pull out to turn on the fogs.

as far as wiring goes is there a factory harness plug where the fog lights mount? if so all you gotta do is hook up to that plug.

otherwise, just take your ground wire for the new lights and ground it. take the power wire for the lights and hook it up to a relay (pin 87), run a power wire to the relay from the battery with proper fuse (pin 30), ground the relay to the chassis (pin 86) and then last run a switch to the relay (pin 85). Mount your switch where you want it on the dash. if you buy a switch that has an LED in (lights up when you turn it on) youll have to ground the proper pin out to the chassis and then run the power wire with a fuse (unless the switch has a fuse in it, i think some come like this) to the battery. the package for the switch will tell you what pin is power, ground and load.

hope this helps.

Default Needd Help

Thanks Pity7700 for getting back to me; YES I have a headlight switch that will control the fog lights, which I installed in place of the stock switch w/o control for the fog lights. When I installed it I noticed that were more pins in the plug then there were wires going to the plug, so does this meaning that I will have install a complete wiring system for the fog lights?

if there is not a yellow wire going into the plug (this would be the parking light wire) then the truck is not wired for fog lights. if there is a yellow wire going to the plug look in the bumper where the fog lights mount and see if there is a connector for the lights, should be one on each side of the bumper.

if there is not then youll have to wire the lights manually, not a big deal and pretty easy to do. wiring it to that factory switch might take a little more work than just wiring your own switch.

if there is a connector at the bumper where the fog lights mount the wires should be tan/orange.

Default Still need help

I want to thank you for you interest, as stated----the pluges inplace down by the fog lights and to the best of my knowledge these wires go up to the main power fuse box under hood which was install by Ford the fuses and relays for the fog light are also inplace in this fuse box. Now the wiring from the switch in the dash has three more pins in the switch, then the switch I took out. I did see another plug with cap; I do not know were it would plug into and I do not know where its wires goes or are for. I will wait for your feedback. thanks I hope I have not confused you any more then before.

dont worry about that other plug. i have that other plug as well. the new switch that you got does it also have a choice on the dial for the auto-dim? if its the switch im thinking about there should be 4 choices on the switch. one choice is all the way turned to the left, next should be parking lights, next would be headlights and the last optioin would be the fog lights which you pull the switch out to turn on.

Does the new switch that you installed still hook up to that harness?

on the harness pull back some of the tape around the wires, check to make sure there is a YELLOW wire going to the plug that plugs into the switch. if that wire is there everything should work fine if like you said there is a fuse where the foglight fuse should be. have you tried the switch?

No, sorry to say the switch you spoke about is not the one I have; the one I have only has three spots ( OFF, PARKING, HEADLIGHT W/pull for fog (however it does not say that as the older ones do)) So I will take a look and see if that wire is there. I just want make sure you understand that the main power fuse box is under the hood not under the dash. IO will get back to you after I look at the wires I will also check the fuse box inside the cab. THANKS again!

there should be two fuse panels. one under the hood that has all the relays for the electrical circuits and some fuses as well. the other one should be under the drivers side dash.

no problem! let see if we can figure this out for you.
