Default Need help from the pros

Hey guys, so I'm looking to buy an F-150 over the next few days. I've narrowed it down to two, but Im having a rough time deciding. Here are the options.

Both trucks are Lariats with the sport package. The first is a '17 with all the amenities aside from the tech package. Sticker I think was 59,900.

The second is a '16 with everything including the tech package. (But no bed liner) which I'm sure I can barter in the deal anyway. Sticker is 64,500.

The dealer wants the '16 gone cause the rebates are huge. They want 52k for it (Have done no bartering whatsoever on either trucks yet). The '17 has really no incentives and they want 58k.

So here's my question, clearly I'm getting more with the '16 model then I will with the '17 at a potentially much cheaper price. More for less is great right!? The only thing that is hanging me up is, is the new second gen Ecoboost worth it? I have no experience with that engine. However, I don't want to be disappointed getting the first gen engine, if the second one blows the first one out of the water in performance and feel. If anyone has experience with both id like to hear your input. If the differences are minimal then I'll probably just go with the '16.

Thanks guys!

my take on it - if both trucks are the Ecoboost I would rather get the '16. save some cash up front, get more features, but also not have to worry about the teething problems that first year models always seem to have. the second-gen EB engine as well as the 10-speed I'm sure are awesome on paper but they haven't been around long enough to really know exactly what issues they may have.

I appreciate the input. That's my train of thought as well. Thanks man. I'm wondering too if that asking price is reasonable. Curious as to what other members paid for thier similarly equipped Lariats.

Yeah, I'd go with the most features for the lower price. However, you need to look at the color of the inside and outside of the truck. Just because it has more features doesn't mean much if you later decide you don't like the color and want to trade it in.

It's funny you mentioned color as that was a huge factor. It must be gray and have the sport appearance package. So that checks out in both trucks. Appreciate the input.

Your question has been answered, but the conversation reminded of something with my wife and buying cars. At one point in our life, a salesman convinced her that if you buy the higher price car new, you get the difference back when you sell it/trade it in. She always chastises me when I want to look at previous year vehicles.
My take (and the correct take) is, if I can get the same truck for $5,000 less, just for giving up one year in the description (ie, both vehicles are new), that is the better deal for me. When I get ready to sell or trade, I MIGHT get my $5,000 back....or I MIGHT NOT get it back. But, if I choose the earlier model, I don't have to worry about whether I'm going to get it back or not.

Very true. Thanks. You may want to be careful with the "my take is the correct one" though. Remember, the wife is always right. Haha

That 52K is before taxes and other add ons, or is it out the door after taxes and add on?

Either way, if the latter AWESOME deal, run with it, if the former, sounds like it is at invoice minus incentives, and that is a pretty good deal for a Lariat. Mine was a 61K MSRP and paid a little over 51K and with horrible incentives, $2500 was the most available at that time. Invoice was right around 54K, the one you are looking at might be between 55 and 56K invoice.
