Make sure the flap that gets folded back when you insert the fuel nozzle is closing completely. Try taking a rag an cleaning the inside lip that that flap seals against. That is my suggestion.

First, not the check engine light. Nothing to do with the gas station, however, your fill inlet is not sealing correctly and is allowing gas vapors into the atmosphere. There is another flap lower in the inlet that is supposed to seal it, that's why you need that special funnel.

I went back to the gas station and put the gas nozzle back in to try and close any open flaps but I'm still getting the same message...which special funnel would I need?

The little white funnel the truck came with, all Fords come with it new. Mine was hanging on the jack tool bag.

Thanks, I've never seen any white funnel in the truck before but I'll take a look before I leave for work

You only need the funnel for when you are filling from a gas can. Not needed for the gas pump. You can see the flap and see it get pushed open as you insert the nozzle. That’s the flap.

not sure how long it will take the message to go away once you fix the issue without clearing it. Maybe someone knows that answer.
