Default Need help 94 ford bogging

I have a 94 F150 4x4 extended cab short bed with a 5.8 and OD trans, electric transfer. 235,000 miles. Havn;t changed anything for a long time.

We live in a very hilly area. (ozark foothills) I drive it most days and it has been fine up till today. Climbs hills like a scalded dog.

Today I drove to town and when I reached the first big hill it bogged and shuddered. Lost power and crawled up the hill. I can;t tell if its the tranny not downshifting or the engine losing power. I tried to shift into first gear and it didn;t help. If I floor it I could hear the engine racing but we wern;t moving any faster. Once I got on level ground, it drove fine.

Trans fluid is full and doesn't appear burnt or smell bad.

I did think I might have smelled something like melted plastic coming from the general engine area but I am not sure.

I need help. From reading on line, it seems to be a common problem

thanks Gary

Soo going up a hill gives it problems? But flat roads don't? Also when you put it into first it just free revved as if in neutral? Or just didn't want to accelerate passed a certain rpm? Just trying to get a little extra info to try and help.

I drove it again today and it acts up only going up hill or taking off fast. (Under load) As soon as you back off on the gas it shifts hard and smooths out. It doesn;t matter which tank I am on and it doesn;t matter if the OD is on or off. IF I put it in first it still pulls (not free reving) but its like its still in high gear or something. I drove it to town and it acted up all the way, On the way back it acted normal till I got to my driveway and it started acting up again

Thanks in advance.

Kinda just seems like a basic tune up may be I store. Plugs, wires, clean the MAFs. And air filter. Also do a fuel filter as well. Now ok your saying it feels like a higher gear? Have it manually in first. And bring it to about 30mph Rpms should be in the range of 2800-3300 depending on your rear gear ratio. And I'm not 100% if that's an e4od trans or aode trans. Gearing is a bit different in those for first gear. So if its around those Rpms. Or higher in first trans is ok. Oh and one more thing does it do it in all gears? Say your doing about 30 mph and you manually have it in second does it do it then too?

Default Solution maybe

I took it to a friend who is a mechanic (full time) and he said it just needed a tune up, not a bad transmission. I bought wires and plugs and started to take it apart. The rotor and cap were corroded badly.

So I went and bought those, then discovered that one of the clips that hold the cap on was broken off. Another trip to NAPA for a cap base.

Got it all together except two plugs which I am to old to get to. (3&4) behind some kind of steel tubes. Yikes.

Anyway long story longer, It still bogged down climbing the hill to town, although it idles nice.

In desperation, I drained a quart of transmission fluid and added a quart of LUCAS tranny syrup and drove it about 10 miles.

IT CLIMBS THE HILL JUST FINE NOW!.

Question
Can the tranny bands be adjusted? It has a E4OD `tranny. door code is E

Any suggestions would be appreciated
