Default Need Chevy information

My neighbor ran out of gas with his 2001 Chevy 3500, 6. something engine. It has two tanks, but he says it has no fuel selector. Bottom line, the engine is getting no fuel, not even getting fuel to the filter. He could hear the pump running, but nothing. To help this guy out, where should I start? How do Chevy's switch fuel tanks? He says there is no fuel selector switch. Is there something dumb and simple preventing the running pump from pumping gas? Even an address to a Chevy forum would be of help. Thanks in advance.

I know a guy that ran out completely on time with a diesel....put diesel in it turn the key let the pump prime...and still wouldn't start....while sitting there looking at other pieces to this puzzle....he left the key turned on the whole time and about 20mins later we noticed the key was left on so we tried it again and it fired right up......try fullsizechevy.com

Bill, I dont know much about the chevy's, but could that truck electronically on its own through a sensor switch tanks? If it does that sensor could have went and need replaced. I know the old fords had a switch on the dash. What do you think about this? Could this be plausable?

If I knew of a chevy forum I would direct you there but I dont know of any. I hope I helped.

I know some aftermarket systems draw from both tanks at once. I almost bought a 2005 GMC LLY that someone had stuck a extra tank on the flatbed (I'm a fiend for a flatbed 3/4 ton diesel) that actually transferred fuel between it and the OE tank so they both always had the same amount of fuel in them. Could be a system similar to that. Doesn't make sense for an electrically controlled system to run one tank and then the other incase one line clogs fuel can be transferred to the other tank...

I agree. Very unlikely, but could be the filter on the pump. Or the pump line has been disconnected inside the tank(pump internals). Could be the sensor, or the sensor fuse.

With the information provided and not being able to troubleshoot the vehicle there is not much we can help with(Or at least I can)..

However, maybe switching to a Chevrolet forum where they specialize in those trucks might help you more.
