I have nothing against anyone who lowers their truck ... I just would never do it. Maybe because my opinion of the "why" is wrong. To explain a little, it has always seemed to me that people lower their trucks for looks - to some degree - but also because they want their truck more "sporty" and/or like a "sports car" or "race car" for lack of a better term. So, with respect to that, I never understood getting a truck in the first place. If you want something sporty, fast and that handles well, why get a truck to start with? Get a sports car and have at it. Sure, you can get the truck moving fast, and make it handle better, but why?
Now, I'm not saying that the ONLY thing a truck is meant to do is get lifted and work/haul/tow and go off road ... I'm just saying that trying to turn a truck into a a sleek sports car type vehicle seems odd, at least to me.
Ok ... so, on to some other things. Someone commented that I think trucks should remain stock. Far from the truth. But I admit that I see so many here that express doing some mods strictly to "make their truck their own". To me, that sounds like people doing things simply for the sake of being different - which doesn't quite compute with me.
Not preaching here ... seriously, I'm not. I'm just letting you all into my head. I have spent the vast majority of my life as a designer/builder. My mindset has become that you do things, design things, implement things that serve more than just one purpose... they should be functional AND aesthetically pleasing ... but they are done for a reason other than "just because". So when I hear that someone is adding graphics to their truck to "make it different", I have to ask "why?". What is it that makes 'you' feel that your truck needs to stand out from the crowd? What is wrong with just doing the things you'd like to do, even if so many others have done the same things?
I have a very simply modified truck, for lack of a better way to say it. I just leveled it, tinted my front windows, but mud tires on, changed my FX4 stickers, and added the "raptor light kit" to my grill. Most here would laugh if I called my truck "modified" ... yet I absolutely LOVE my truck like that, and couldn't care less if everyone else around town had the same truck with the same mods. My truck is mine, and their trucks are theirs ... I truly couldn't care what they think about mine, or if mine and theirs look the same. I would NEVER go buy an uncommon colored truck to be different. I don't like the colors like blue flame, or race red, or even ruby red ... not for a truck. Honestly, the colors themselves are amazing, but I just don't like the way trucks look when they are such bright flashy colors. I know that's just my opinion, and those who do love those color trucks - your opinion is just as legit as mine. Again, all I'm saying is that I don't care for it, and thus would never go that route - even if everyone here in town around me had tux black FX4's just like mine.
I didn't change my FX4 stickers to be different than anyone else. I did it because I didn't care for the red in the sticker - so I had some monochrome FX4 stickers made. Again, NOT to be different ... I did it because that's what I wanted. If everyone else in town did the same thing, it wouldn't mean a thing to me.
Sorry for the long post ... and sorry if anything I said comes off as offensive to anyone. I'm just opening up as much as I can about how I think, why I feel like I do, and why I made my list the way I did.
Exactly^^^ thats what my last list was, things I wouldn't do to my truck. I did level the rear. Why? So it would fit into my garage. I am glad people make their vehicle different, for whatever reason it is.
