I don't have any idea whether leasing is a good or bad deal financially. But I do know that interest payments are rolled into your monthly payment. Yes, you are paying interest, even if it is not pointed out as such.
So for me, as someone who refuses to pay interest to anyone, leasing does not work. Been there, done that, screw paying interest.
But, for an unbiased article on the subject, here is Consumer Reports latest explanation on Leasing.
https://www.consumerreports.org/buying-a-car/pros-and-cons-of-car-leasing/
And please spare me your negative opinions of Consumer Reports magazine. This month's Auto Issue has an F-150 on the front cover, and has the F-150 as a Top 10 Pick among all vehicles.
And could someone please tell me why, after I put in a link, all the print turns blue and underlined after that. WTF? I didn't do it. Freaking computers!!!

if you're willing to do a little work every few years, leasing is definitely a very good option for you.
in 2014, I leased a XLT 302a for $34k + tax. at the end of the lease, my residual was somewhere in the neighborhood of $27k.
i bought it out, drove it for another 2 months and sold it privately for $32k.
maybe my story is an exception, but it is possible to drive a new vehicle and not lose an incredible amount of money every time you get into a new one.

It will usually always pencil out in favor of leasing (vs Purchasing) IF you are upgrading every 3 years or less. That is not the case with all vehicles however, only those that have (historically) high Residual Values assigned by the finance company, the F-150 (1/2 tons in general) certainly do. Ford Focus as an example, they don't hold their value as well as a truck, so they tend to Lease poorly. You can actually make the argument, that even if you do decide to purchase, it can make financial sense to first Lease, than buyout and end of term. My current XLT lease had a Money Factor (Lease Interest Rate) of .00010 (To calculate the interest rate, simply multiply the Money Factor by 2400), so Interest rate is .25%. A rate like that would be very difficult to achieve with most conventional loans. Heck, wish I could borrow a billion dollars at that rate, could retire tomorrow. Every month, finance heads at Ford sit down and decide what the "Money Factor" and "Residuals" will be for their vehicles the following month which come out on the first. If they need to move inventory on a select model, increase profit, etc., they will inflate/deflate those Residuals and Money Factors to best compete in the Market. Over the last year, region depending, Money Factors have ranged from .25%-2.5% (Excellent) and Residual ranges of 55-68% (Excellent). If you find that right combination and timing, some unbelievable deals to be had.

I had already posted the CR article.
Thanks for the link work-around, it was not needed with the previous version software. Oh well.
