Default Management system says I have 51% oil life left after 4k????

I recently picked up a 2011 F-150 Lariat with a 5.0 and 38K miles. I have put 4K miles on it so I went and picked up oil and a filter. I started fooling around with the oil management system and when I found the oil life percentage left it indicated there was 51% left. Can this be after 4K? So how does this work? Mileage, resistance, can the system actually tell how broken down the oil is?

I believe that is is set up for 10,000 oil change intervals you can reset it to what ever you want in the system screen.

Like above, go to Bob's, also send you oil in for a UOA otherwise you will never know what shape it is in and pay the extra for TBN.

Or, for essentially the cost of an "oil analysis" you could just change it, reset it and not worry about it anymore.

Wish I would have thought of this oil analysis deal.

Lol it works out for some, especially diesel guys who run 3 gallons of $15/qt amsoil.

Agreed in that scenario, otherwise it seems like a waste.

You could also read the manual. Google "Ford F-150 manual" and your year if you don't have one.

I couldn't agree more and I did "just change the oil". However, I still want to know if the Management Sytem has the ability to "examine" if you will the oil or if it is strictly a mileage thing.
