Make your own toe alignment tool for less than $15.
Super easy toe alignment after front end maintenance. Step by step how to.
1. Go to Harbor Freight and purchase two 48 inch aluminum rulers for $4.99 each and two 12 ft tape measures for $1.99 each. Total spent $13.96 plus tax.
2. Go home.
3. Remove the plastic wrap from the rulers.
4. Lay the rulers face down but opposite one another so you'll also have two 24 inch rulers.
5. Put construction adhesive or other strong bonding adhesive on back of one ruler and lay the other on top with ruler facing outward.
6. Let cure.
7. Once cured, cut down the middle at 24 inches using a vise. I used a reciprocating saw.
8. Now on each end cut a slot long enough and wide enough to fit the tip of the tape measure in flush with the end and large enough to fit the rivots between.
Now for use.
1. Remove front two tires.
2. Using bungee cords or anything like wire, place one ruler on bottom of wheel spindle against rotor and hold it there with the bungee or wire by wrapping behind the knuckle and hooking on the lugs.
3. Repeat opposite side.
4. Place tip of tape measure in slot on one side and pull across to the slot on the other wheel on the front and rear of rotor.
5. Adjust tie rod to equal or desired distances.
6. Tighten tie rod and remove tools and reinstall tires.
7. Drive ro alignment shop for full alignment.
This tool is meant to safely get you to the alignment shop not as an alignment substitute.
