Default Lower air dam

What is the purpose of the ridiculous lower air dam I understand its probably aerodynamics but is there any other use to it. If not can it be removed without any problems?

It helps re-direct air through the radiator for cooling .

You can remove it, but it won't really look the best without it. I took mine off and painted it since it was ridiculously faded, so now it's less noticeable and looks better.

That's what the big *** hole in your grill is for. The only purpose it serves is to smooth out airflow under the truck.

+1 Its to improve aerodynamics by reducing the amount of air going under the truck at high speeds. The atlas prototype has one that lowers to the ground at highway speeds.

Take it off if you want, won't really improve anything but may cause some unforeseen side effects.

I beg to differ. It's not NASCRAP truck racing.

Read it, it has nothing to do with "air-flow directed over radiator", only airflow under the truck

I'm looking for one of these that has been removed from a 2012-2013 for a project. Anyone have one just laying around?

Underneath your truck is the dirtiest area when it comes to aerodynamics.. Having an air dam greatly increases your aerodynamics... They put it on there for a reason. I'd recommend not taking it off as it improves your mpg

Shouldn't be hard to find I have removed about a dozen of them and tossed them in the trash.
