Default Lousy Seat

I hate to rant but its the little things that **** folks off and make them shop elsewhere. My 2016 XLT has just 70k (43k miles) and the front seat bottom bolster is flattened to the frame. If I don't fix it, the cloth cover will certainly be damaged, as will my sciatica. MY old 09 XLT had over 300k and still had a nice cushy seat with no appreciable wear to the material when I sold it last year.

I ordered a new Ford foam seat bottom as it looks simple enough to replace. What a POS, the new foam was $95 Cdn and looked like it had been made by someone who was on their first day at work. The new foam was even torn in two spots, I took it back into the dealership and even the parts guy was amazed....He's ordering another one but I'll bet it will be as lousy as the first one. If so, they can keep it and I'll try and fix the original.

I don't see any aftermarket options, anyone know if one is available (to Canada)?

Dave

Do you have any custom shops in your area that you could take the old foam cushion to and just have them cut you a new foam bottom to match?

That's what I was going to say. I had a stock motorcycle seat recut and then memory foamed that turned out great, but the place is in NC. They do one day turnaround though.

Might try The Seat Shop, ask if they're producing Durafoam for the 13th gen yet.

Definitely take it to a local upholsterer. My son's '04 F-150 had the same problem as yours when he purchased it used. Took to auto upholsterer and they used a great quality foam that was significantly better than original.

Seat shop doesn't have a bottom for the newer models yet. I picked up another seat bottom from the local dealer, it is better than the previous one and I'll change it out soon. I'll likely rebuild the original one by cutting off the weak bolster if the rest of it looks ok. I'm not overweight and am careful to not drag my butt across the bolster but its very disappointing to see how cheaply the seat bottom is made and how the new one will likely fail too in a few years.

Sounds like there was an inferior batch of foam. I'm at 110k on my 2015 XLT and although I weigh a good bit, slide over that bolster every time I get out, and sometimes sit on it with my feet on the running board, mine doesn't look bad yet. You can tell it's wearing, but not to the point of getting creases in the cloth.

I would suggest checking with local upholstery shops. They can hook you up with much more comfortable materials that you will ever see in a Ford.
