"hot shot" generally refers to a guy with his own truck who takes on shipping jobs on his own. Often a guy will have a dually pickup with a trailer and makes his living picking up small shipping jobs. Cars, atv's, motor cycles are often shipped with a hot shot driver. The only issue is how to find one. Tried U-ship in the past, but their fees are expensive and that cost shows up in the bids.

I have a truck and trailer, but not the time to make the 1,000 mile trip.

Check out www.uship.com

Its a good place where hot shot people bid on jobs. Just find someone that is insured. I have used the site twice with great success shipping vehicles cross country.

I was hoping for less than $500. Found a truck box in Texas for a great price and he was willing to ship it to me for a fair price. Pulled the trigger on that one. Thanks for the interest though.

I was more so curious to see what someone could charge doing this. Unfortunately, like you, I am short of time to do something like this.

I used one to ship a atv from Louisiana to Milwaukee. He charged me $350 for the service and I had the atv 2 days later. I got several other quotes off U-ship in the $700-$1,100 range. U-ship is a good source for these guys, that's where I found the one for the atv. He said that he turns to the website when he has some room left in the trailer. He also told me that U-ship charges a lot and was willing take several hundred off if I paid him in cash on delivery. That could explain some of the high bids I was getting off the website. There would be a significant savings if you are willing to wait for a planned route to pass by you. For some bidders this added two weeks to their delivery time.

As with everything.... people are there to make money. U-ship is a broker and provides a service. It is great though to find someone that has an empty haul coming your way and willing to ship something cheap. Most guys charge $1.35-1.50 per loaded mile. Diesel isnt cheap
