Default Locking differential

Hi there! I'm a newer member, the owner of an 02 5.4 scab 4x4. I've been listing out parts for an eventual completed build and decided that I would go for a 4x4 prerunner style build. That brings me to my question. I'll be purchasing 35" tires and changing the gears to 4.56. I wanted to put lockers in it, but they just seem like such an expensive investment. Do you think that they would be an essential part of a build like this? I won't be doing any heavy mudding or rock-crawling, but will take it to the dunes and on trails. Maybe you know of an inexpensive solution? I'd just like to hear some others' takes on my query! If there's any other information that I can provide, let me know.

everytime I see the words I want a "pre runner", I always see the word cheap in somewhere near it, those two things belong on different planets with that type of build. That's why you always see people saying they are going to do it, then never do.

Aussie or Lock Right. Takes about an hour and a half to install yourself and they are under $350. Just make sure you get one for a Ford 8.8 with 31 spline axels. Actually had another forum going under the 97-03 series of F150 section where this was being discussed. Aussie and Lock Right are the same design, Lock Right is made in the US by Richmond Gear and Aussie is made in Australia.

I thought the 8.8 was in the front and 9.75 in the rear? I really don't know about the diffs on my truck. Is it easy to identify them as such?

Most 5 and 6 lug F150's got the 8.8. The heavy halfs had the 7 lug, I think they got the 9.75.

Here is links to the diff covers if you'd like to find out.

Ok, so a 9.75 34 spline in the back? And either an Aussie or Lock-rite. Check! Thanks, guys!
