Default load on 6.5' bed's tailgate?

hi there. new member here. been looking at f150's and can't decide on supercab w/6.5' bed, or single cab w/8' bed. i'm in middle of home remodel project and having rented or borrowed trucks or vans w/8' beds, they're the best thing since sliced bread.

my question is how much load can the tailgate take with one of those bed extenders, and will sheetrock and plywood fit while using one of them?

thanks.

The tailgate can take plenty of load. Just don't drop something heavy from 10' in the air on it and you'll be fine. Plywood and Sheetrock sheets come in 8' sheets so they will fit with the tailgate down, but I'm not sure about the bed extender, it might get in the way. But in my experience usually its heavy enough that it wont just slide out as long as you take it easy. I just take 2 ratchet straps to the end at the tailgate and hook them to the closest bed tie-down points. You might just close the tailgate on the items and let them sit on top of it. Can't see out of your Rear view but they won't slide out either.

I woul'd go with the extended cab w/ 6.5' bed personally because the extra cab room is nice and there is still plenty of bed space.
