Default A little help here

I've decided to get a '13 FX2 Super Crew in the near future but was can't decide between the Ecoboost and 5.0 V8. I've read alot of bad press on the reliabilty of the fuel economy and the engine dying. But, test driving the Ecoboost was a lot of fun. Is there something I need to look at regarding when the truck was made to make sure all the updates have been performed or specific questions to ask the dealer? I don't want my truck in the shop every month and the V8 might be a safer though less sexy alternative.

I looked at them both also. I will say that the turbos are nice but I personally have a hard time with a V6. They just sound off to me, especially if you put on an aftermarket exhaust on it.

Sure that this is not the answer you are looking for but it is my $.02

personally I'm starting to think that it's hit and miss with the ecoboost (drivability) issues . I have a 2012 fx2 w/ ecoboost, the clock is siting at 16900 miles and I haven't had it in the shop once. I drove the 5.0 prior to my purchase and just about bought it, but after 5 seconds in the ecoboost I was SOLD! The 5.0 ( no offense guys) just seemed like it was missing something, like it was straining to get up to speed. I always felt like that w/ my 08 5.4 as well. Just my personal experience. I'm sure you will be happy no matter which route u choose. Good luck.

Get that EB.. Have some fun.. I'd sure hate to drop $30,000+ and be ALMOST completely satisfied!!! (5.0 is a great motor/truck, but sounds like you're on the fence and leaning towards the EB, just being cautious..)

2013 EB with 46,000 miles. Not one problem with the truck. My mileage has been far better than I expected. I can beat the 16/22 listed any day of the week.

I just did a round trip from Escondido, CA to West Covina and back and was showing 25.7 when I pulled back into my driveway.

I would never go back to a V-8 again. JMHO

I drove and researched both truck engines. The eco boost was fun to drive but i did a LOT of research on both engines and i could not forget the issues that the eco boost was reported to have. I know some guys on site will swear that they have a great engine and others not so much. For me I decided to go with V8 and i have NO regrets, for you thats your decision but do the research so you have no regrets down the line. Good luck.

I had a 2009 Lariat with a 5.4 motor. Just got my new truck a week ago. I got the Ecoboost. I also had the twin turbo BMW and I can say the Ecoboost is just as powerful as the BMW's. The problem is the truck needs to go on a diet to keep up with the Bimmer. The biggest problem with any turbo motor is it is just too much fun to feel the turbos kick in. My personal opinion is I bought the right motor and would buy it again. No matter which way you go you will be happy

My son in law has a '13 Lariat with the Eco engine and it pull's a lot harder than my '11 with the 5.0. He's also getting up to 23mpg hwy as opposed to my 21mpg.

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, if exhaust note is a factor the eb sounds like *** with an aftermarket system where the V-8 ...well sounds fantastic.
