People always say the MM Act will save you. Fact is, YOU have to fight a huge company in court. Will you win? Is it worth it? Questions you need to ask yourself.

And for the record, Ford is just as bad about voiding factory warranties. I read just last week that dealerships are being told to look for "tunes or other modifications" to EcoBoost vehicles, and if any are found they are instructed to void the warranty on the vehicle. And, the letter stated that there ARE ways for them to know.

Now, there are a few dealers who are mod friendly and will work with you. Same is true of aftermarket warranty companies. So are better than others. But in general, once you start modding, you're effectively taking the gamble that your warranty is gone.

Contact a lemon lawyer. They deal with this type of stuff all the time. Most of there cases are out side of lemon law terms so they take different routes.

Yep. Ford IDS software is able to show a tech if the PCM has been reflashed, then flashed back to stock, when it was done, how many drive cycles have passed since then... all that stuff is stored in the 'history'.

Not saying you're wrong. But that's pretty much hearsay at best.

So if I purchased a tuner to compensate for a larger tire size, and not perform any engine tune mods, my warranty would be void?

Insurance companies tend to deny as standard practice (many of them) the first and even second request. They figure just saying it is void or not covered that about 80-90% of people will just walk away figuring that is life. When they deny the second time about half, or more, of those will walk away. That leaves them to only really have to deal with a small percentage of claims. Many of those they will pay without any further issues and claim it was a simple misunderstanding or new person, etc.

Yes, maybe. Ford and all OEMs warrant their parts with their tune. They don't warrant the work of others.

Let's say you buy a tune from company X and swap the air filter out for some sort of cold air induction system (company y). If your engine blows, should Ford pay for the repair? What about company X or y?

Bottom line: the more aftermarket parts you add, the more risk you take to your warranty.

But, a new tune isn't going to void the warranty on your wiper system.

Nope. Nor will it prevent owners from getting regular oil changes.

Most of the time, a tune and a few upgrades aren't going to hurt anything. But, the more you deviate from stock - the more risk the OEM will balk at a warranty repair.

I doubt it. I know the way we operate - with Ford warranty - the issue would still have to be linked to the modifications in some way to void warranty. With an aftermarket warranty though, one of the first questions the claims rep will ask "Has the vehicle been modified in ANY way?", and you better believe we tell them the truth especially with engine issues, cause they may send an inspector right out...

I should clarify too, there's no simple message that comes up in IDS that states the truck has been tuned or what not, but a good tech can look at the data and tell.
