I paid extra for a 36 gallon tank and I'm going to use it every time! I didn't want a 18 gallon tank!

I can go weeks without hitting a station!

 

Well until I learn more about her personality, and her likes and dislikes, she is going to get filled up when it hits 1/4 tank...like many others I love keeping up on how far I know I can go on a tank of gas, and yes it drives my wife crazy who is always looking for fuel with less than a half of tank left..I am leaving on a road trip to Daytona this week so I am glad I know now how far to push her.

 

Why do you wait so long? I used to have a friend do that all the time. It was always exciting driving along with him.

 

IMHO I have always used the 1/4 tank rule. 1/4 tank fill-up. I use that rule around town and while traveling. Have never been stranded because of running out of fuel, blown engine, flat tire and flat spare, accident, ... yes, but not out of fuel.

 

I don't like too run the tank too low too often for fear of damaging the fuel pump.

 

Good point. Since our trucks use a submersible pump, they stay cooler when emersed in the fuel.

However, some say thay have run their vehicles to empty for years without any ill effects, so I can't argue that.

 

The fuel running through the pump is actually what keeps it cool. Although I'm sure it will stay a wee bit cooler being fully submerged in fuel. Although it is not likely to make a negative impact on pump life. Different story if you're constantly running it empty though.

 

Had the exact same thing happen to me once. Parked the truck with about 90-100 showing on computer. Driveway has slight incline and nose was pointed down. The next morning I remote started. After about 5 min I went out and the engine wasn't running. I was like "That's weird". When I got in she would not start...computer now showing like 10 miles till empty or something like that. I put it in neutral and let it roll out of the driveway and turned on to the flat street . Tried it again and it started right up! I then drove to the nearest gas station with cheeks firmly clenched the entire way. Made it no problem and filled up. I think the miles till empty on these trucks stinks.
On a side note, has anyone else noticed that the truck will not remote start if the gas level is showing low?
