The law physics
A big thanks to a michigander who sent in this bet of humor, which was forwarded from a senior level person at Chryler. the date on the note, July 19, 2009.
Monday moring, I attened a breakfast meeting where the speaker/guest was David E. Cole, Chairman Center for Automotive Research(Car and Professer at the University of Michigan. You have all likely heard CAR quoted, or referred to in the auto industry.
Mr. Cole, who is an engineer by training, told many stories of the difficulty of working with the folks that the Obama administration has sent to save the auto industry. There have been many meetings where a 30+ experienced automotive expert has to listen to a newcomer to the industry, someone with zero manufacturing experience, zero finance experience and zero engineering experience, tell them how to run there business.
Mr. Coles favorite story is as follows: There was a team of Obama people speaking to Mr. Cole (engineer, automotive experienceof 40+ years, and chairman of CAR).They were explaining to Mr. Cole that the auto companies needed to make a car that was electric and liquid natural gas(LNG) withenough combined fuel to go 500 miles so we wouldn"t " need " so many gas stations (a whole other subject). They were quoting BTUs of LNG and battery life that they looked up on some web site.
Mr. Cole explained that to do this you would need a TRUNK FULL batteries and a LNG tank as big as the car to make that happen, and that there were problems related to the laws of Physics that prevented from....
The Obama person interrupted and said (and i am quoting here): These laws of Physics? Whose rules are those? We need to change that." (Some of the others wrote down the law name so the could look it up.) "We have the congress and the administration. We can repeal that law, amdend it, or use an executive order to get rid of that problem. Thats why we are here, to fix these sorts of issues."
......... And these are the same people who are going to fix healthcare
thought i"d share.

Cute story, too bad it is a lie.
Man, some people must really hate Obama, because I get these made-up stories in my e-mail all the time.
If you don't want to be played for a chump, bookmark Snopes.com.

Don't get your hopes pinned to Snopes. The "facts" gathered are just those that fit the presupposed outcome as determined by the two Scandinavians that operate the site. There are several other "fact" gatherers out there besides Snopes and input from them all should be gathered and assessed in order to reach a consensus.
I can't verify every entry ever made on Snopes.
But I have never seen any evidence showing that they were wrong in fact on any of the phony e-mails that I checked with them.
Maybe the people that say that Snopes can be wrong, are the same ones that put out the phony e-mails. Is there any evidence that Snopes was wrong on the e-mail above?
Call me old-fashioned, but I don't like to be lied to. I guess some people just don't mind being played.

Maybe the old standard for humor needs to be used for this guys before a pissing match starts... The best humor (and lies) always has a bit of truth to it... If we are going to argue about things at least direct it at HEMI LOL

Keeping politics out of this, how many people reading that e-mail know that a gallon of gasoline contains 114,000 BTU's of energy? Or that a gallon of LNG (Liquid natural Gas) contains 75,000 BTU's. That means that it would take about 1.5 gallons of LNG to provide the same mileage as gasoline, so you would need a 30 gallon tank to be the equivalent of a 20 gallon tank.
Hardly a tank as big as the car. Of course Cole did not say that quote anyway.
I'm on my high horse about this because getting the facts right is important, and energy independence is no laughing matter.
There are people in this country that believe we can turn natural gas into a commonplace fuel for trucks, and maybe cars.
The fact is that we have over 100 years supply of proven natural gas reserves in the USA right now. Convert that to auto fuel and you can kiss the Saudis good-bye.
But don't take my word for it, check out T. Boone Pickens website.

Like I said, humor, we need more of it. It is a dig at the Obama Administration, I really don't think it is worth getting so hot and bothered about. LNG is really not viable as a replacement fuel for the exact reason that you point out, BTW.
