That is crazy. I keep mine locked to prevent this but it is crazy they get that much. All the parts are about $500-600 to get them legit. Shows how stupid some people are to pay that much.

Everywhere. OEM replacement doesn't have to come from Ford. I can pay $200 for a headlight bulb too, but I don't. Yes, if you go all original it can run up, but you can get an OEM replacement for $200 or one off a wrecked one, the camera I can find everywhere for $200-300 and the step the same for $200. I didn't count the paint in that because if somebody buys a hot tailgate they still have to get it painted as well. That is unless they specifically go to a guy, who knows a guy, and tells them the color they need and that guy brings him his tailgate a few days later.

And don't get me wrong, I am not belittling locking up the gate and I plan on doing something to aid in that area as well, on top of keeping mine locked all the time like normal, my question was how thieves were able to get so much for something that can be replaced for much less without the risk of it being hot.

I have also known people to stamp the vin into all major removable parts (doors, hood, gate).

Tailgate shopping in parking lots is popular here. Can generally find a color match for grey, silver, white and sometimes red/blue. No painting necessary.

Sucks. So I got the lock.

Ive had my brake light covers stolen off my old truck. Not sure how to protect that short of locking the gate. But then they just punch the lock.

So it's not to be an expectation I should be made WHOLE with all OEM parts that were stolen from me? You sound like an insurance underwriter.

OR I can avoid all that two stepping with a $20 lock.

There was that one link above for a plate that went inside to prevent this kind of access. Says it protects against screwdriver attack, if that is what your talking about.

I bought this as well, but can't get the damn Torx bolt off my truck to install it. I almost stripped the bolt trying a few times and eventually decided not to keep going before I destroy the torx bolt. I guess the threadlock they used is strong as hell.
I think there was another thread somewhere on this site about someone breaking the torx drill-bit they give you in the kit. The bit just snapped on an angle.
I was using the bit, as well as the alan key torx they give you in the DeeZee tailgate kit, as it's the same sized bolt you need to remove for the JimmiJammer product.

Your not going to find one with a step and camera used for $500-600, when the used market for them is 2k.
