Default Incorrectly assembled struts? 2017 4WD

Hoping to get some insight from the group. I recently installed new 6112 strut assemblies (bought pre assembled online) which lifted the front a couple inches. During the test drive, I noted a knocking / clunking noise when driving over normal small bumps in the road. Seemed to be coming from driver's side. I retorqued all the bolts that I messed with during the install. All were torqued appropriately. A local shop checked it out and said the strut inside the strut mount is not secure and was knocking against the strut mount. They said it was either assembled incorrectly or defective. They couldn’t tell for sure without removing the assembly. Also, after meeting with them, I noticed the driver side has a lot more threads showing than the passenger side which tells me the passenger side also might not be assembled correctly (pictures below). What do you all think? Do you think it's just loose assemblies? If so, can they be tightened without removing them?

If the spring is setting on the spring perch in the right spot, should just be a matter of tightening down the center nut on top of the strut. Make sure its lined up correctly.

^Agreed, if everything seems in the right orientation should be easy enough to tighten the top nut (might need a pass through type socket to allow something else to hold the shaft).

Do I need to take tension off the spring to make sure I torque the nut appropriately? Do either of you happen to know what torque I need to hit? Google is leading me to torque specs for the top three nuts.

Looks like this is what Bilstein generally recommends but I’ve always just snugged them down until the nut essentially bottoms out. Shouldn’t be any issue with the spring as that expansion force usually helps keep the shaft from spinning but still always a good idea to have something on the top hex bit to just to stop it from turning excessively.

The center nut on the shock shaft is not tight. The first photo has 4 threads showing

the second only 2.

I think that worked! I had to pickup a passthrough socket set so I could keep the shaft from spinning. Passenger side was way loose. Pretty frustrating the seller let these go out the door that way when I paid for them to be fully assembled, but oh well.

Thank you all for your help!
